Throughout this semester, I’ve noticed a change in how I write. Beforehand, I never really had the opportunity to craft an entire paper solely based on my own thought process similar to the Inquiry-Based Research Essay given in class. It was that essay that I really started to understand how vital it is to analyze a variety of genres and rhetorical situations in other people’s writing, including my own. It’s allowed me to incorporate different rhetorical devices like pathos, ethos, and logos to help evoke emotions, reason, and character throughout my writing. I’ve also been introduced to CCNY’s library database and this was essentially viral for the Source-Based Essay as I needed to implement a source that was a peer-reviewed journal, something that I was not familiar with prior to taking this course. As it pertains to the Composition In Two Genres project, the presentation portion allowed me to use my presentational skills as well as for my peers to evaluate me and the information I’m providing in a rhetorical way. Having learned how to use and analyze rhetorical situations, I notice how often we implement these devices in our everyday lives.
