Marijuana

General Introduction: In the 80s and even throughout the 90s, crack cocaine took the streets of New York City by storm, and many thought that’d be the last of a major drug outbreak. Fast forward two decades later, the popularity of Marijuana is increasing by the day and its high demand has the potential to recover the economy today. It is contradictory to believe that just many years ago, people were against the selling of drugs but because Marijuana allows economic growth, it seems as if it is not so bad.

Author: Anne C. Cunningham
Audience: Her audience is targeted towards those who support the idea of Marijuana being accepted into society, rather than it being looked upon as a crime. On the other hand, people who don’t necessarily understand the positives of the wide availability of Marijuana, especially for young people growing up.
Tone: Cunningham’s tone is unprejudiced and unbiased. She does not depict the negatives of one idea shared by one group of people compared to another, instead, she allows each group to be their voice of reasoning.
Purpose: Cunningham’s purpose in writing this book is to highlight what many different groups of people think about the legalization of Marijuana. She has specific chapters for each group of individuals; “experts” “courts” “government” “politicians” “media” and “ordinary people” and in each of those chapters she presents their perspective on what they feel the right thing is to do regarding decriminalizing cannabis. This makes Cunningham’s book more credible as she allows for many voices to be heard. She doesn’t seem to take a side and leaves her opinion out of her writing.
Stance: Cunningham stands very neutral throughout the book, she instead allows her book to remain unbias as it shines a light on all sides of the question and it focuses on what type of potential impact could the legalization of Marijuana have within the states.
Genre: The book displays a sense of “freedom” as Cunningham takes an unorthodox approach to introduce a topic that portrays the many conflicts that correspond with Marijuana. In addition, she allows her analytic data to be the voice of reasoning to back up the different opinions throughout each of the chapters.
Exigence: With the popularity of marijuana on the rise, and even with some states already taking steps towards making medical marijuana laws or even decriminalizing marijuana as a whole. However, this raises an alarm about what the potential future could hold with the advancement of marijuana being easily accessible practically everywhere.
Kairos: Marijuana has never had a positive image up until recently as it became more and more popular throughout the years. Up until recently, many have come to realize it is not as impactful as alcohol, but many still want to correlate the two as a “high-risk.”
Logos: There have always been many different opinions on the possible effects that marijuana can have on a person’s development, everyday life, and how it may affect them later on in life.
Ethos: The data and research presented to support specific claims brought by each of the possible groups.
Constraints: Some may not care to go through all the chapters of the book to potentially understand the thoughts of many, instead of just focusing on the opinions that are subjective to the person reading the book.

Author: Investment Weekly News, “offering the most comprehensive and convenient way to find case studies, in-depth statistical data coupled with deep research, and the ability to compare global economies, countries, and industries”
Audience: residents in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, those who smoke cannabis, and potential business owners.
Tone: the tone of the article is very optimistic yet has a very direct-to-the-point structure. “There is so much noise in this exciting industry. Arcview assists investors to cut through that noise.” With the use of “exciting” and “cut through that noise” we can see how the author has a positive outlook on the idea of cannabis expansion. However, the latter half of their statement also supports the straight-to-the-point style the author displayed throughout the article.
Purpose: to inform, to bring awareness of the possible opportunities there are in New York and the other accompanying cities to jump on the wave of marijuana legalization while the demand is at its peak and its supply is increasing.
Stance: the author believes in the idea of advancing the availability of marijuana/cannabis in New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York.
Genre: the genre is an article written by a staff editor in the investment weekly news. It is evident that this article primarily focuses on giving sufficient evidence that highlights the correlation between cannabis and financial growth. They go in-depth on the many high-profile people that are possible investors of the product.
Exigence: In the most recent year the value has reached a high demand in the market across the United States. Entrepreneurship is also another thing that has been on the rise, when you combine two popular things they tend to make a statement.
Kairos: many states have taken the first steps to legalize cannabis and investors are taking notice as many different businesses pitch their newfound ideas in hopes to expand.
Logos: It would be in the best interest of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to start the expansion of cannabis within the inner cities if they don’t want to fall behind. In today’s society, considering the decline of production in society, cannabis seems to still hold its value and is on track to even double itself in the next few years. “the market saw a 20 percent growth rate in the global sales of cannabis in regulated markets in 2018 with sales on track to surge 36 percent to $14.9 billion in 2019 and break $40 billion by 2024.”
Ethos: There is a multitude of investors who have expressed their interests in the business of cannabis and the author’s emphasis on a specific group of investors who are known for remarkable things helps the author, “The Arcview Group” is the leading investment and market research firm focused on connecting high-net-worth individuals, institutional investors, and money managers with the investment opportunities, key players, and indispensable insights to realize their goals in the cannabis sector. “
Constraints: possible constraints that could arise from this article are that critics can doubt how likely it truly is for the economy to be able to expand due to the expansion of cannabis and its legislation within the states. In addition, some readers may just not support anything marijuana-related at all and have a biased Opinion while reading this particular article.

The author is Chip Barnett and it can be determined as a credible source as it is published by the bond buyer and they are known to be a reliable source. The audience would be residents of New York, those who are involved in anything marijuana-related, state legislators who would be able to make a change, and those who may have got potential jail/prison time for marijuana-related issues. The tone of the article is impartial because Barnett does not seem to have any personal feelings that cloud his judgment, he on the benefits that would bring revenue if marijuana were to become legalized, in addition, he lets it be known that this isn’t just about the money, it’s also about bringing back justice in our black and Hispanic communities who don’t necessarily have the most positive background when it involves marijuana. The purpose is to spread awareness of the possible benefits that marijuana can bring to the city of new york. He informs his readers of the pros and cons that could arise from doing this. Stance: The author’s stance is that he thinks Marijuana becoming legalized can be a success as it is a way to advance the economy. He states, “There is simply no reason for New York to be stuck in the dark ages” meaning that the legalization of marijuana is not a decision that should just be entirely slept on. The genre: This article aims to provide enough evidence to support the author’s opinions that highlight the relationship between the legalization of marijuana and financial growth to demonstrate the benefit of expanding its market.
Exigence: The rise of marijuana consumption and legalization is advancing everywhere around the country. However, New York tends to always follow their timeline and do things differently compared to other states. This left the open-ended question, “what exactly does the legislation on marijuana cost us? And in the case of Barnett, it helps clear the stereotype that surrounds marijuana in the minority neighborhoods and the potentially large payout that can be used for funding other things around the city.
Pathos would be the fact that if America does not capitalize on this opportunity to potentially fix the declining economy by jumping on the wave of making marijuana legal. If they do not, they may risk the chances of their economy suffering further. Kairos is the fact that there are a lot of new laws coming out and many things are subject to change, this was a potential opportunity for new york to spread their economy. It’ll also lessen the number of people incarcerated for petty things like possession of marijuana if it becomes legalized.
The logos of this article is to possibly find a solution that potentially benefits both sides: the economy, and the people. Many people use marijuana in their everyday lives, yet the laws in place don’t allow for that to be explored freely. However, in the case of Benett he makes the argument that marijuana can be something good, it’s just whether new york will take that opportunity or not. The ethos is more so focused on the data and statistics the author provides to support the idea that legalized marijuana can turn the financial curve into a positive situation if in an actual scenario this happened. The constraints could be potential critics questioning Bennett about whether he understands the dangers of marijuana(potential to be contaminated with fentanyl, people’s tolerance amongst themselves so sum may have different experiences, the idea that he is supporting the consumption of drugs to help ‘ ‘benefit” society.

Tone: The tone comes off as very “comforting as the YouTuber describes what happens to the body as one decides to refrain from smoking.
Purpose: The purpose of creating this video is to give incite as to what takes place in the body as
Stance: Towards the end of the video, the YouTuber makes it evident that they’re not saying to quit marijuana, but instead they’re just giving out helpful information to those who may want to know the potential benefits of quitting and even some everlasting effects that could arise from years of daily usage.
Genre: Instead of a typical article, newspaper, or even an ordinary book, the YouTuber takes a different approach in making a video on content that explains everything about marijuana. This is especially key in today’s age, as everybody is moving towards the digital side of things, so this approach allows for the opportunity to target a multitude of people at once.
Exigence: In recent years, the world has gone through so many pivotal changes. Marijuana consumption, distribution, and just the accessibility to marijuana have skyrocketed. This may have led people to consume more than they previously anticipated and now they’re looking to either quit or minimize how much marijuana they use.
Kairos: New laws are being passed concerning the advancement of marijuana in society, and many things may change.
Logos: The logos would be to just make people more aware of what is going on in their bodies because the majority of people don’t understand what exactly certain things could potentially do to harm you.
Ethos: The scientific data that was provided to show what happens to your body as you consume marijuana for an extended amount of time, and what happens to your body once you stop or you gradually reduce the amount that you take.
Constraints: Possible constraints that could arise from this video are that people may not seem to think about the risks of smoking marijuana, or even consuming any sort of marijuana in the many ways that one can. Moreover, marijuana does not have that big of a risk compared to other recreational drugs.
